Getting started
Is JoinRooms complicated?
No. Open a Room, enter the required access details, choose a nickname, and press Join. Advanced controls are optional. See how JoinRooms works.
Do I need an account?
No JoinRooms account is required to join a Room.
What do I type to join?
Enter the Room name, the Room password when required, and the nickname you want people to see. A shared invitation may fill in some Room details. Follow the joining steps.
Rooms and access
Why does a Room need a password?
A password is one supported way to control entry. Normal Temporary Room creation requires one. Supported Reserved Rooms may instead use open or knock entry.
Can strangers find my Room?
Rooms are unlisted by default. A Reserved Room owner can publish a listing in Find Rooms when the Room qualifies. A listing shows summary information, not the conversation. An unlisted Room can still be entered by someone with valid access. Understand listings and Room access.
How does knocking work?
A visitor requests entry and waits for an eligible person inside to approve the knock. Approval is not automatic. Read the knock-entry guide.
Temporary and Reserved Rooms
What is the difference?
A Temporary Room is quick to create and does not permanently claim its name. A Reserved Room holds its name while the subscription is active and adds more settings, management, history, and media options. Compare the Room types.
How much is a Reserved Room?
A Reserved Room currently costs $19.99 per year. Checkout provides the final price confirmation.
Do Rooms display advertising?
Temporary Rooms may display advertising. Reserved Rooms do not use the free-room banner.
Passwords and owner controls
What is the difference between a Room password and Owner PIN?
The Room password is participant access information when required. The Owner PIN is a private owner credential and should not be included with an invitation. See each credential's purpose.
Can an owner remove someone?
Authorized Room managers can remove or escort someone, or ban that person from returning. A manager cannot moderate someone with a higher role. Read the moderation steps.
Chat, Theater, and Music
Do I need to understand Theater and Music?
No. Main Room chat is the basic experience. Theater and Music are optional Reserved Room areas for supported media. Learn about the optional media areas.
Can I send photos, GIFs, and reactions?
Reactions are available for messages. GIFs depend on Room settings. Reserved Rooms can allow photos; normal Temporary Rooms do not. See the media and reaction guide.
Privacy and safety
Are messages encrypted?
JoinRooms encrypts room messages in the browser before relaying them. Protect Room passwords and invite links. This is not a promise of complete anonymity or absolute confidentiality. Read the product privacy explanation.
How do I report a serious concern?
Use the in-product Serious Concern option when available or the Contact / Report Abuse page. JoinRooms support is not an emergency service. Read the safety guidance.
Devices and connection
Can I use JoinRooms from my phone?
Yes, JoinRooms works in modern phone, tablet, and desktop browsers. Installation options vary by browser and operating system. See installation steps.
What happens when I close or background JoinRooms?
JoinRooms attempts to restore a valid Room session after sleep, refresh, or temporary connection loss. Restoration depends on the Room and browser retaining the required continuity information. Learn how to reconnect or return.
Billing and support
Where do I get product help?
Use the Help Center for instructions. Use Support for the fastest route to technical, billing, safety, or project-support resources.
