The simple journey

How JoinRooms works

Open a Room, choose a nickname, and start talking. The controls beyond that are optional.

Join an existing Room

  1. Open JoinRooms or a shared invitation.
  2. Enter the Room name if the invitation did not fill it in.
  3. Enter the Room password when that Room requires one.
  4. Choose the nickname people will see.
  5. Press Join. If the Room uses knock entry, wait for an eligible person inside to approve you.

When entry succeeds, you arrive in the Main Room and can take part in the conversation.

Create a Temporary Room

  1. Choose Create a Room.
  2. Choose a Room name and create its Room password.
  3. Choose your nickname and set a private Owner PIN.
  4. Enter the Room.
  5. Share the Room name and participant password with your group. Do not share the Owner PIN.

A Temporary Room is quick to create, but its name and history are not promised permanently.

Three details with different jobs

Room password
Shared with participants when the Room requires a password.
Owner PIN
A private owner credential. Do not send it with an invitation.
Nickname
The name a participant uses inside the Room.

Use the Room

The Main Room is the everyday conversation area. Participants can chat, react to messages, and see unread indicators. GIF sharing depends on Room settings. Reserved Rooms can also allow photos.

Reserved Rooms include optional Theater and Music areas for supported media links. Moving between areas does not require leaving the Room.

Owners can open optional settings for access and moderation. Participants do not need to learn those controls to use a Room.

Return later

JoinRooms attempts to restore a valid Room session after sleep, refresh, or a temporary connection loss. Restoration depends on the Room still existing and the browser retaining valid continuity information. It is not a promise of uninterrupted access or permanent history.
