Overview
JoinRooms provides accountless, browser-based Rooms. Operating the service requires processing Room information, participant-provided content, browser data, technical records, and information submitted for support, diagnostics, billing, or safety.
Information used to operate Rooms
- Room names, descriptions, settings, entry modes, and listing information
- Nicknames and Room-role information
- Password-verification and owner-credential verification data
- Messages, reactions, recent Room history, uploaded photos, and other user-generated content as the feature requires
- Reserved Room subscription, ownership, and reservation records
Listed Room summaries may appear in Find Rooms. Listings do not publish Room conversations.
Messages and browser-side encryption
JoinRooms encrypts room messages in the browser before relaying them. Message history is limited, and Reserved Rooms can retain recent history across visits under current access rules. This does not mean every form of content or metadata is inaccessible to JoinRooms or its service providers.
Do not treat JoinRooms as a guaranteed anonymous or zero-access service. Protect Room passwords and invite links.
Photos, GIFs, Theater, and Music
Reserved Rooms can allow photo uploads. Files may be processed for delivery, safety controls, abuse investigation, and operational needs. GIF search and delivery use GIPHY.
Theater and Music open supported third-party media from providers such as YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, SoundCloud, and Spotify. Those providers may receive technical information and apply their own privacy policies, cookies, sign-in rules, and playback restrictions. JoinRooms does not host that third-party media.
Browser storage and service workers
JoinRooms uses browser technologies including cookies where needed, local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, caches, and a service worker. These can hold preferences, Room identifiers, nickname and continuity information, notification state, recent presentation data, and cached application assets.
Clearing browser data may remove settings or prevent session restoration. The exact controls available depend on the browser.
Push notifications
On supporting browsers, a participant can choose Room alerts. Notification delivery requires permission and a valid push subscription. Push services operated by the browser or device provider process the information needed to deliver alerts.
Diagnostics, IP addresses, and operational logs
JoinRooms may process IP addresses, IP-derived or hashed identifiers, timestamps, browser and device information, connection events, error details, performance data, security events, and diagnostics needed to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.
A submitted diagnostic report may contain technical Room and client context described by the submission interface. Do not place passwords, Owner PINs, payment details, or unrelated private content in optional descriptions.
Advertising and analytics
Temporary Rooms may display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies under their own policies. Reserved Rooms do not use the free-room banner.
JoinRooms may use operational measurements needed to understand reliability and usage. This policy should be updated before introducing a separate general-purpose analytics product that materially changes data collection.
Payments and Reserved Rooms
Reserved Room checkout is processed by Stripe. Payment providers process payment and transaction information under their own policies. JoinRooms may retain transaction references, subscription status, purchaser contact information supplied through checkout, Room reservation records, and information needed for support, fraud prevention, accounting, or legal obligations. JoinRooms does not ask visitors to email complete card details.
Safety and abuse reports
Reports can include Room information, nicknames, timestamps, descriptions, technical metadata, and submitted evidence. JoinRooms may preserve and review information needed to investigate abuse, security incidents, unlawful activity, or violations of the Terms and Community Guidelines.
When legally required or reasonably necessary for safety, JoinRooms may preserve or disclose information to service providers, law enforcement, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or other appropriate authorities.
Retention and deletion
Retention varies by data type and operational purpose. Temporary Room content is not promised after the active Room ends. Reserved Rooms can retain limited recent history and settings while the service and subscription remain active. Logs, payment records, diagnostics, reports, and safety evidence may be retained longer for security, support, accounting, legal, or abuse-prevention needs.
Deletion requests and privacy questions can be sent through Contact JoinRooms. Some information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or safety purposes.
Children
JoinRooms is not directed to children under 13. The appropriate age requirement and consent language can vary by jurisdiction and should receive formal legal review. If JoinRooms learns that a child's information was processed contrary to applicable requirements, it may take steps to remove or restrict that information.
Third-party services and changes
Hosting, infrastructure, email, push, advertising, payment, GIF, and media providers may process information under their own terms. This policy may be updated as the service or legal requirements change. The displayed update date identifies the current published version.
