The Room comes first
JoinRooms organizes a conversation around a shared Room rather than around a public profile or contact list. People normally enter with the Room information they received, choose a nickname for that conversation, and meet inside the same Room.
A Private Room is one of JoinRooms' paid persistent Room plans. The same Room-centered idea also applies to Temporary Room, Reserved Room, and Room Plus, but the available privacy, media, and persistence features differ by plan.
What a participant needs
Normal participation does not require a JoinRooms account, email address, or phone number. A participant usually needs the Room name, the current Room password when password entry is enabled, and a nickname. A valid invitation already identifies the Room, so the person receiving it may only need to choose the participant information requested on the invitation screen.
A nickname is the name shown inside that Room. It is not a verified identity, and two different Rooms do not create a shared public profile for that nickname.
Room passwords, invitations, and knock entry
The Room password is participant access information. Owners should share it only with people they intend to invite and keep the Owner PIN separate. Invitations make the entry path shorter, but recipients can still forward a link, so an invitation should be treated as access information rather than as a permanent secret.
When the Room uses Require Knock, a new visitor waits for an eligible person inside to approve entry. Knock entry is an admission control, not a Discretion Setting, and approval is not automatic.
What the owner controls
The owner manages Room-level choices such as the door, allowed content, selected settings, and moderation. Authorized co-owners or staff can perform only the actions allowed by the existing role hierarchy. Participants can use the conversation without learning the owner controls.
Private Room adds Discretion Settings for eligible device-level privacy choices. These are different from admission controls: covering one person's screen does not lock the Room for everyone.
What happens when someone leaves
Leaving ends that participant's current connection. It does not automatically end the Room for everyone else. If the person returns later, JoinRooms may restore valid local continuity or may ask for the current Room information again, depending on the Room state and what the browser retained.
Burn Room is a separate owner action that ends the active Room for everyone. Leaving, covering the screen, and burning the Room are intentionally different actions.
Temporary and paid Rooms
A Temporary Room is free to create and useful for casual or short-term conversation, but its name and history are not promised permanently. Paid Room plans hold the chosen Room name while the subscription remains active and add plan-specific persistence, settings, privacy, or media capabilities.
Private Room focuses on chat, photos when allowed, and Discretion Settings. Reserved Room includes Theater and Music but not Discretion Settings. Room Plus combines Discretion Settings with the paid media areas. See the complete Room type and pricing comparison before choosing.
