What is JoinRooms?
JoinRooms is a private chat platform that lets people create password-protected Rooms without creating accounts, profiles, or friend lists.
Do I need an account?
No. JoinRooms does not require accounts. Enter a Room name, password, and nickname to get started.
How do I create a Room?
Enter a Room name, choose a password, pick a nickname, and enter the Room.
The first person to create a Room becomes the Room owner.
What is a Reserved Room?
A Reserved Room is a permanent Room name that belongs to its owner.
Reserved Rooms can use an Owner PIN, Room descriptions, welcome messages, and ownership controls.
Who owns a Room?
The person who creates a Room becomes the owner.
Owners can manage access and control Room settings.
What can Room owners do?
Room owners can:
- Protect Rooms
- Approve knocks
- Escort users
- Ban users
- Transfer ownership
- Customize owner settings
- Burn Rooms
What does Burn Room do?
Burn Room permanently ends the Room for everyone currently inside.
When a Room is burned, everyone is removed from the conversation.
What happens if I forget a Room password?
JoinRooms cannot reveal or recover an existing Room password.
If the Room is a Reserved Room, the owner may use the Owner PIN to reset the Room password and regain access.
For regular temporary Rooms, you may need to create a new Room and invite people again.
Are messages encrypted?
Yes.
Messages are encrypted in your browser before they leave your device.
JoinRooms relays encrypted message data without decrypting message content.
Can JoinRooms read my messages?
No.
JoinRooms relays encrypted message data between participants and does not decrypt message content.
Messages are encrypted before leaving your device and are intended to be readable only by participants in the Room.
What is an Owner PIN?
Reserved Room owners can create an Owner PIN to help verify ownership of their Room.
An Owner PIN can be used to access owner features, recover ownership of a Reserved Room, and reset Room passwords when necessary.
Keep your Owner PIN private and secure. Anyone with access to your Owner PIN may be able to control your Reserved Room.
Can people find my Room?
JoinRooms does not provide public Room discovery.
People generally need the Room name, password, invite link, or access from someone already connected.
Can I use JoinRooms on my phone?
Yes.
JoinRooms is designed to work on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers.
Do Rooms last forever?
Most Rooms are temporary.
Reserved Rooms are designed to keep their Room name and ownership across visits.
How do I invite someone?
Use the Invite button inside a Room to copy or share an invite link.
Some Rooms may also offer a QR code for easier sharing.
What is knocking?
Protected Rooms may require new participants to knock before entering.
A Room owner or approved participant can allow access.
How do I report abuse?
Use the Contact / Report Abuse page and include as much information as possible.
Helpful information includes:
- Room name
- Date and time
- Nicknames involved
- Description of what occurred
